Martha, a 55-year-old Amish cook with a warm, welcoming smile

I’m Martha

An Amish home cook for 40 years, sharing my family’s traditional recipes

My Story

For all of my 55 years, I have lived within the peaceful rhythms of an Amish community in Pennsylvania. My journey in the kitchen began when I was just a child, standing on a wooden stool beside my grandmother as she taught me how to knead bread dough with just the right amount of pressure.

I remember the smell of fresh apples baking in a pie, the sound of preserves bubbling on the stove, and the warmth of our kitchen filled with family and friends. These memories shaped my understanding that cooking is more than preparing food—it’s an act of love, faith, and community.

This blog is my way of reaching beyond our community and sharing the honest, nourishing food that has sustained my family for generations. These are the recipes that fuel long days of work, celebrate new beginnings, and comfort during difficult times.

The Heart of Our Amish Cooking

The meals I share come from a tradition deeply connected to the land and seasons. Our cooking has Swiss-German roots and is built on what we can grow, raise, and preserve with our own hands.

Three Principles in Every Recipe I Share

  • Farm-to-Table as a Way of Life: Our ingredients come from our own gardens, barns, and pantries. When I share a recipe for strawberry jam, it’s made with berries I picked myself that morning.
  • Handed-Down Wisdom: My recipes come from stained notebooks, faded cards, and cherished memories. Each carries the gentle touch of my mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
  • Nourishment for Body and Spirit: Our food is meant to sustain hardworking families, warm you from the inside, and bring people together around one table. It’s honest cooking that fills both stomach and heart.

A Note About Who You’re Hearing From

Throughout this page and all my recipes, when you read “I,” “me,” or “my,” you’re hearing directly from me—Martha. I’m a 55-year-old Amish woman who has spent a lifetime cooking for my family and community. Every story, tip, and recipe comes from my personal experience in our Amish kitchen.

Sharing Our Traditions

Here I’m preparing to film one of my cooking videos, where I show the simple techniques that make Amish food so special. I believe seeing the process helps keep these traditions alive.

The Joy of Homemade Bread

This is one of my favorite recipes to share—a simple, hearty loaf that fills the kitchen with the most wonderful aroma. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of bread you’ve made with your own hands.

Thank you for visiting my kitchen. Whether you’re looking for a hearty meal for your family, a taste of Amish tradition, or simply the comfort of homemade food, I hope you find warmth and welcome here. Pull up a chair, and let’s cook together.
